These Temperature-Regulating Fabrics Could Help You Sleep Better
Bedding experts are sharing the best fabrics for temperature regulation to help achieve a comfortable night’s sleep.
The experts from Winstons Beds have outlined which fabrics allow breathability and have moisture-wicking properties to promote restful sleep.
Choosing the right materials can help maintain an optimal body temperature throughout the night, reducing discomfort caused by dampness or overheating.
Natural materials like linen, cotton and silk are great options thanks to their breathability, moisture-wicking abilities, or gentle feel against the skin.
According to the Sleep Charity, the ideal bedroom temperature for a good night’s sleep is between 16°C and 18°C, as this cooler range aligns with your body’s natural evening drop in core temperature, supporting melatonin production and deeper, more restful sleep.
So having bedding which helps to maintain a perfect sleeping temperature will offer a restful night’s sleep.

Rebecca Swain from WinstonsBeds.com said: “There’s nothing worse than being at an uncomfortable temperature when you’re trying to sleep.
“There are various fabrics to look for when shopping for bedding that can help regulate temperature and improve your chances of a good night’s sleep.
“Natural materials offer great breathability and airflow, whether it’s the more common cotton or alternatives like bamboo and silk. There are several options available depending on what you’re looking for.”
Five fabrics great for temperature regulating bedding:
Cotton
Cotton is a lovely, breathable fabric that absorbs moisture well, recommended for moderate climates for everyday use. Pima and Egyptian cotton are great choices due to their finer threads, which allow for greater softness and durability.
Linen
Linen is an excellent choice for warmer weather, offering superb breathability and moisture-wicking properties. It becomes softer with each wash and is naturally durable and hypoallergenic, making it a long lasting and healthy option for bedding.
Silk
Silks smooth fibres feel cool to the touch and are gentle on the skin, making it ideal for sensitive sleepers, also offering moderate moisture-wicking, natural temperature regulation and a luxurious finish.
Bamboo
Bamboo is a breathable, moisture-wicking fabric made from soft fibres derived from the bamboo plant. It regulates temperature well, stays cool in warm weather, and is naturally hypoallergenic, a great choice for sensitive skin and eco-conscious sleepers.
Tencel
Made from sustainably sourced wood fibres, tencel is a breathable fabric and excels at temperature regulation, wicking away moisture and humidity to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night.
