Specialist Shares Insights on Innovative Sleep Apnoea Device

Sleep Apnoea

Sleep Apnoea is a sleep disorder that causes breathing to repeatedly stop or become shallow during sleep.

The NHS has started offering a chip, inserted on a critical nerve under the chin, which sends an electrical current to move the tongue forward.

Molly Beal, Home Specialist at MattressNextDay commented saying;

“This new electronic chip for sleep apnoea sufferers sounds like an exciting step forward in medical technology. It naturally raises the question: how might this compare to the treatments we already have? Options like CPAP machines, mouthguards, or lifestyle changes can be effective, but they’re not always perfect. For instance, CPAP machines – while considered the go-to solution for moderate to severe sleep apnoea – can be bulky, noisy, and not exactly the most comfortable thing to use every night. This smaller, more discreet device may well be the answer for people who struggle with these challenges.

When it comes to existing products to treat sleep apnoea, there’s no doubt they’ve helped countless people, but they can have their downsides. For some, oral appliances aren’t an option due to jaw issues, and even the best treatments require a certain level of commitment that not everyone finds easy. This new device could be a game-changer if it tackles these issues, offering something that’s simpler, easier to use, or even just less intimidating.

That said, no new product is without its potential challenges. There is little information out currently on the affordability or potential availability of the product, and there is a risk that it might not perform well in the long term.

Overall, it’s an exciting development, and it’s great to see innovation in this space. While it’s still early days, this device could make a big difference for sleep apnoea sufferers who are looking for a new or better solution. It’ll definitely be worth keeping an eye on as it rolls out.”
